The folks from SAMA or the Seventh Avenue Merchants Association posted this message in response to my comments saying that the Melrose Street Fair on 7th Avenue would be a good place to circulate petitions to legalize marijuana.
SourceI think that is a polite way of saying that SAMA or the Seventh Avenue Merchants Association has rented the sidewalks on 7th Avenue on the day of street fair and that people circulating marijuana petitions will not be allowed at the Melrose on 7th Avenue Street Fair.Melrose on 7th Avenue - Mickey this opportunity has come up before in conjunction with the Street Fair.
I want to share the constraints imposed by the City. [Well actually these constraints are NOT imposed by the City of Phoenix. These constraints are being imposed by the folks at Seventh Avenue Merchants Association and Melrose on 7th Avenue who have decided to ban people from circulating petitions to legalize marijuana. It is their decision and their decision alone to ban people from circulating petitions to legalize marijuana in Arizona. In fact it would be illegal and unconstitutional for the City of Phoenix or any other government entity to ban people from circulating petitions to legalize marijuana at the 7th Avenue Street Fair. ]
With petitions, you cannot be on private property, you have to remain on the sidewalk and SAMA has exclusive use and control of the Street that day, much like a private party. I wanted to give you a heads up so you are not surprised or disappointed day of. Please message if you have any questions.
If that's true, that's fine with me. We don't want people trespassing on their property which they have rented from the city of Phoenix. I sent the folks at Seventh Avenue Merchants Association a message asking that is correct and will repost this when I get a response.
