You can blame these busted water mains on the police unions???

You can blame these busted water mains on the police unions???

These water main breaks are not random accidents.

They happen because the city of Phoenix does not do PM or preventative maintenance on water mains and replace them when they are about to wear out.

Instead of putting money aside to fix and replace water mains when they are at the end of their life span, the city of Phoenix gives most of it's money to cops, because the police unions will get the members of the city council re-elected.

I recently posted an article that said the city of Phoenix gives 45% (44.72%) of it's budget to the police. A link to that article is after the main article.

Water mains when they are installed have a useful life of around 50 years and should be replaced after they have been used for that long. The Phoenix New Times did an article on this subject maybe 10 years ago.

Other city governments like my city of Tempe, and Los Angeles do the same thing because the police unions are so powerful. In most city governments the cops get around 40% of the budget.

Phoenix police: Water-main break partially closes Central Avenue

Jerod MacDonald-Evoy, The Republic | azcentral.com 7:58 p.m. MST May 15, 2016

A water-main break closed traffic in both directions at Central and Clarendon avenues Sunday evening, officials said.

The Phoenix Police Department is advising motorists in the area to avoid Central and Clarendon avenues while city officials work to fix the broken water main, according to police spokesman Officer James Holmes.

Officials with Phoenix water expected the 8 inch line to be repaired before the Monday morning rush but Clarendon will remain closed between Central and 2nd Avenues as crews make the repairs.

Side streets nearby may also be affected by the flooding, Holmes said.

Here is a link to the article that says 44.72% of the Phoenix budget goes to the Phoenix police.

They didn't say that number (44.72%) in the article, but you have to look at the pie chart at the end of the article to get the number and move your mouse over the part of the pie chart that shows the police budget.
