Sounds like the usual line of BS from politicians.
I hate Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and the only reason I am happy that Paul Penzone is in power is because it means Sheriff Joe Arpaio is gone. Personally I suspect that Paul Penzone will be just as bad as Sheriff Joe. I also suspect that Paul Penzone isn't an idiot and won't routinely make a fool out of himself as Sheriff Joe does. But I suspect that Sheriff Paul Penzone will be just as bad as Sheriff Joe. And sadly with this line I suspect that Sheriff Paul Penzone will continue the "War on Drugs" at full speed. Attack the opiate and heroin epidemic through prevention and enforcement. The "War on Drugs" needs to be ended and cops need to hunt down real criminals that hurt people, not people who commit victimless drug war crimes.
Paul Penzone: 17 things to expect from me as sheriff Paul Penzone, AZ I See It 4:33 p.m. MST November 11, 2016 Sheriff-elect: I will work to earn the trust and confidence of everyone in this community. Here's how. Thank you for the honor of being elected as your sheriff. Thank you the kindness and support you’ve shown my family through this challenging process. At the beginning of this campaign, I made a commitment to represent myself in a manner that reflected my leadership beliefs and integrity. I believe I stayed true to this promise, in the face of opposition that was contrary to my values. I am proud these efforts prevailed. This election was not decided by the most dollars spent or highest name recognition. Qualifications and performance records were considered. Public safety was the deciding factor, not politics. Truth mattered. Democracy worked. The overwhelming majority of our community — Republicans, independents, Democrats and Libertarians — set aside partisan politics and prioritized public safety. As I move forward, I will serve all members of this community with respect, ethics and integrity while aggressively enforcing the law. We will pursue criminals who threaten our well-being. I will work to earn the trust and confidence of everyone in this community, through strong leadership and professionalism that is reflected throughout the organization I lead. 17 fundamental objectives Though the job ahead of me is formidable, I have established fundamental objectives: Select the most talented and qualified law-enforcement professionals for command positions. Respect, enforce and adhere to federal, state and local laws. Restore fiscal responsibility. Demand transparent, honest and principled operations. Evaluate all programs on their effectiveness, efficiency and necessity. Assess Tent City without consideration of its notoriety. Prioritize animal welfare and support the MASH unit. Properly staff jails. Improve court processes. Repair inter-agency relationships. Provide comprehensive policing for the communities we patrol. Expand the posse and ensure it plays a critical role in crime prevention and community education. Demand fiscal efficiency in the jails, which are currently the most expensive in the state. Create partnerships for programs that protect and educate our youth. Attack the opiate and heroin epidemic through prevention and enforcement. Enhance community-based policing efforts for all cultures, ethnicities, communities and neighborhoods, restoring trust and confidence. Adhere to federal mandates, relieving taxpayers of this additional burden. We will invest in the backbone of our organization, our employees. We will deliver advanced training, equipment and technology to facilitate their growth, development and success. We will become one of the most sophisticated law enforcement organizations in the nation. I have learned from some of the best law-enforcement leaders in the country. I take pride in my commitment to best practices through modern techniques for investigations that will help us pursue offenders and suppress crime throughout our community. I believe that fundamentally sound and comprehensive law enforcement will sustain the test of time. The safety of our families and our children depends on it. Thank you for the privilege of serving as your new sheriff. Paul Penzone, a former Phoenix police sergeant, was elected Maricopa County Sheriff on Nov. 8, defeating six-term Sheriff Joe Arpaio. |
