I wonder how much cops and the police unions have to do with all the concerts, festivals and other events that are held at city parks??? Such as at the Phoenix Steele Indian School Park or Tempe Town Toilet (Tempe Town Lake as the royal rulers of Tempe call it).
And I say that because the cops LOVE these events because they can make big bucks at the event, doing pretty nothing while at the same time getting paid time and a half. In Phoenix cops start at about $25 an hour before benefits. So at these events cops are all being paid a minimum of $37 and hour, with most of them getting a lot more. That's to do nothing but hang out at the events. In most city governments the police budget is about 40% of the total budget. That's followed by the fire department budget which is about 20%. So in most cities the cops and firemen control about 60% of the city's budget. In Phoenix there are about 3,000 cops. That may not sound like a lot, but when you have an election and only 5 or 10 percent of the registered voters show up and vote, those cops can easily swing the election if most of them show up and vote. And because of all those cops, or better said police voters, I suspect the members of city councils usually do that the cops tell them to do. You have seen the campaign sign that frequently say the candidate is endorsed by the local cops. The cops and police unions don't endorse candidates because they want better government. They endorse candidates because they want more money in their wallets. From either pay raises, or from more laws being passed that give cops more more to do. So with that in mind, I wonder how much effect the police, and police unions have in creating all these concerts, festivals and other events that are held at city parks? Not because the cities need these events, but cause the cops want to make over time by working at the events. Every time I go to one of these concerts to collect signatures to legalize marijuana I always see a whole slew of cops hanging around doing nothing, but yacking between themselves and checking out the woman.
