People are taught that their religion is the one true and correct religion and when they discover facts that say their religion or for that matter all religions are nothing but superstition they refuse to believe them.
Same is true in government brainwashing.
People are brainwashed by government rulers that illegal drugs will turn you into an insane, stealing, murdering creamy person if you take one puff of a marijuana cigarette.
And many people when they see evidence that says that is false they refuse to accept the evidence.
Same is true in racial brainwashing.
People are brainwashed by their parents and relatives that Blacks, Jews, Mexicans, Gypsies or other groups of people are inferior races. And that their race is the master race.
And of course many people when they see evidence that says that is false they refuse to accept the evidence.
Same is true in political brainwashing about government and political parties such as the Democrats, Republicans, Communists, Socialists and other parties.
People are brainwashed by elected officials and government bureaucrats that government is a necessary for the civilization to work.
That without the work of the elected officials and government bureaucrats, that civilization as we know it will be destroyed and the world will revert to the stone age.
And of course many people when they see evidence that says that is false they refuse to accept the evidence.
Cognitive Dissonance
Cognitive dissonanceSometimes people hold a core belief that is very strong.
When they are presented with evidence the works against that belief, the new evidence cannot be accepted.
It would create a feeling that is extremely uncomfortable, called "cognitive dissonance".
And because it is so important to protect the core belief, they will rationalize, ignore and even deny anything that doesn't fit in with the core belief.
